The Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan has taken measures to intensify vaccination in response to the regional measles epidemic. The target group of this initiative is persons aged 11 to 40 who have not yet been vaccinated against measles.
In response to a rise in the number of measles cases, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Health is taking swift action to immunize unvaccinated people. The initiative is targeting children between the ages of 11 and 40 who missed childhood vaccinations or remain susceptible due to incomplete vaccination programs.
Why is this urgent?
In 2023, there was a severe measles outbreak in the European region, with the virus spreading to certain parts of Azerbaijan. Analyses showed cases in children under 10 and in older age groups, mainly those who had not been vaccinated or exposed to the disease.
Protection of vulnerable groups:
The Ministry of Health emphasizes the importance of vaccinating children in accordance with the national schedule and extending protection to the 11-40 age group, which is considered to be vulnerable to the current outbreak. This proactive approach aims to protect the population from infection and prevent further spread of the epidemic.
Vaccination:
Individuals can be vaccinated through health facilities that provide outpatient services in their communities. The target age group (11-40 years) is immunized against measles with one dose.
